Not really intending to be a negative vibe, but when I watch this, I remember when I was a kid surfing in Southern California. Most of us out there would hate to see these guys with kayaks paddling out because their craft were lumbering, slow, ungraceful, and pretty likely to cause a wipeout if kayaker blundered into your way while you were riding a wave.
From the other side, now, the cool thing about kayaks is you can actually go somewhere on or in one.
All that to say, I'm guessing those New Zealand surfers wanted the IK guy to leave.
